ARTS & EDUCATION: Deconstructing- University of Chicago Fine Arts Building

3rd Coast donated time to deconstruct and ship items from the University of Chicago Art department building to the Rebuilding Exchange (www.rebuildingexchange.org). The University of Chicago has donated the majority to the Rebuilding Exchange. 3rd Coast purchased the remainder of the materials and have found a new home to integrate the purchased materials (lighting and sinks) into an upcoming renovation.

HOSPITALITY: Blackbird Restaurant Chicago

Being ever thoughtful of maintaining a congruency in quality along with an innate understanding of the daily operations and consistently reaching for perfection in all areas of the restaurant, the Blackbird Restaurant Group made the choice to refresh the back of the house kitchens, cold prep and main work areas within the first floor and basement areas. I experienced the same painstaking attention to detail, care, and just plain hard work from the restaurant partners during the renovation process. The project time line was extremely aggressive and partners Chef Paul Kahan, Donald J Madia, and Rick Dermit were there throughout the renovation process. I had the opportunity to experience a level of ownership, humbleness, and pride in thier individual specialties and crafts which has and always will make Blackbird a piece of art ever moving, ever evolving, and consistently ahead of the culinary curve. Thank you to Chef Paul Kahan, Donald J Madia, Rick Dermit, Eduard Seitan, & the Blackbird staff for the opportunity to be a part of your project, Dan.

ARTS & EDUCATION: The Burnham Pavilion in action

Dan Sheehy with Third Coast Construction (the Pavilion fabricator) snapped a few photos of the VanBerkel designed pavilion. The pavilion is set to begin deconstruction November 4th.

A Middle West Collective Project

We, A Middle West Collective Project, have facilitated and completed the preparatory wall design work on the last two art installations for the Violet hour facade and each has maintained an environmentally conscious approach while promoting local artists and community thoughtfulness. ARTS & EDUCATION: UN Studio | Burnham 100 Pavilion

Check out ABC's coverage of the UN Studio Ben Van Berkel design Burnham 100 pavilion project which 3rd Coast Construction built in Millennium Park. This ode to Daniel Burnhams 1909 plan, is open to the public today. The pavilion is on display to the public through to the end of October.

URBAN SALON: Wicker Park Salon

The project began with a complete demolition of the interior. All building materials were either salvaged or contained recycled content, all paints used are low VOC, all plumbing fixtures used are low flow and Eco friendly. 3CC constructed all new walls, installed new doors, base and case moldings, installed all low voltage data and phone systems, repaired and refinished the flooring systems, removed and rebuilt the kitchens and bathrooms, built the new wash station area, installed all millwork, lighting packages, new mechanical systems, and completed renovations of the facade, etc. Highlighted in the imagery above is the Reception and lounge area and a wall installation designed by The Mighty Bear Cats.
